Description

Bavafil® Olefin is an exclusive, in-house developed olefin copolymer compound that leverages the advantages of polypropylene (PP) while eliminating its typical processing difficulties. While conventional olefins are often difficult to handle, this material has been specifically optimized for minimal shrinkage and maximum reliability. With a density of only 0.92 g/cm³ , it is approximately 30% lighter than PLA or PETG – the perfect choice for anything that needs to fly, float, or be easily transported.

Outstanding properties of Bavafil® olefin:

  • Extreme weight advantage: Due to the low density, you can create components with significantly reduced weight while maintaining high stiffness – ideal for functional model making and drone construction.
  • Outstanding durability: The material is resistant to most solvents, oils and acids, making it indispensable for technical applications in mechanical engineering.
  • High temperature resistance: With a resistance of up to 85°C, the material remains dimensionally stable even in demanding environments.
  • Safe & Odorless: Bavafil® Olefin is completely toxicologically safe and odorless during printing – making it ideal for the production of high-quality toys.
  • AMS-Ready: Our 1.0 kg spools are fully compatible with multi-material systems such as the Bambu Lab AMS .

Processing instructions :

Thanks to its optimized formulation, the material can be processed on standard 3D printers without an enclosed build chamber. Precise leveling of the first layer is crucial for adhesion. Furthermore, in vase mode , you achieve absolutely distortion-free and aesthetically pleasing results.

Olefins have a very low surface energy, which is why they often adhere poorly to conventional printing surfaces (such as PEI or glass). For successful printing, we recommend:

  • Smooth plate surfaces: Preferably use a smooth printing plate.
  • Adhesion promoter: The use of a special PP glue stick (e.g. Magigoo PP) or a high-quality 3D varnish is essential for the adhesion of the first layer.
  • Cleanliness: Ensure the surface is completely free of grease before applying the adhesive.

850g spools with a 1.75 mm diameter are available.

Product performance

SPECIFICATION

  • Bavafil olefin filament on spool, vacuum packed
  • Net weight: 850g. Gross weight: 1100g
  • Tensile modulus: 3900 MPa
  • Diameter 1.75 +/- 0.05 - 0.1mm
  • Roundness: +/- 3%
  • Extruder temperature depending on printing speed and layer thickness: 225–245°C
  • Recommended extruder temperature for initial tests: 230°C
  • Print bed: 85°C - 90°C recommended

PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Suitable for direct drive and Bowden extruders
  • Printing speed 30-150 mm/s depending on nozzle temperature and layer thickness

The first layer should be 0.3mm thick to compensate for unevenness in the print bed. The first layer should be printed at 130% print width to improve adhesion.

Setting the blower fan to 20% - 70% after the first layer helps to cool the melt quickly enough on overhangs.

1. General Security Information

  • Use only by trained personnel:Printing with olefin compounds requires specific knowledge of print bed adhesion and material behavior (e.g., first-layer leveling). Children should only operate the 3D printer under constant adult supervision.
  • Ventilation:Although Bavafil® olefin is considered odorless and toxicologically safe, as with any melting process, adequate ventilation of the work area is recommended to maintain optimal air quality.

2. Instructions for handling olefin filament

  • Store in a cool, dry place:To ensure consistent print quality, the filament should be sealed airtight and ideally stored with a desiccant.
  • Protection against UV radiation:Store the raw material away from direct sunlight to prevent premature aging of the polymer.
  • Safe handling during printing:Do not touch any hot components (nozzle, heated bed) and keep your distance from the moving parts of the printer while it is in operation.

3. Special safety instructions

  • Protection of children and pets:Keep children and animals away from the printing area. Small parts, filament remnants, or support structures can be swallowed and pose a choking hazard.
  • First aid in case of incidents: Burns:In case of contact with hot surfaces or molten plastic, immediately cool the affected area of skin with cold water. Seek medical attention for severe burns or blistering.Fumes:Should irritation occur despite the high purity of the material, leave the room and ensure fresh air circulation. Consult a doctor if symptoms persist.

4. User responsibility

  • Proper operation:The user bears full responsibility for the proper configuration of the printer (especially the use of adhesives) and the safe operation of the device.
  • Protective equipment:Since olefin components are highly tough, it is recommended to wear safety glasses when removing support structures. Heat-resistant gloves are advisable to protect against residual heat from the print bed.
