Description

BavaFlex TPU 98 is a premium filament specifically designed for applications with extreme mechanical demands. With a Shore hardness of 98A , it offers the perfect balance between flexibility and printing comfort. To meet every requirement, we offer this high-performance material in two chemical base variants:

1. BavaFlex TPU 98-A (ester base)

The ester variant is the specialist for maximum mechanical performance .

  • Advantages: Superior mechanical strength, extremely high elongation at break and excellent abrasion resistance.
  • Ideal for: drive belts, gears and components that are subject to high physical friction and mechanical stress.

2. BavaFlex TPU 98-ETH (Ether-based)

The ether variant is the specialist for durable outdoor and long-term applications .

  • Advantages: * Microbial resistance: The material is not attacked by fungi or bacteria (ideal for applications involving soil or water contact).
  • Excellent hydrolysis resistance: Stable against moisture and water, even under prolonged exposure.
  • Improved UV resistance: Significantly more resistant to embrittlement and yellowing caused by sunlight.
  • Ideal for: Outdoor equipment, handles, seals in outdoor areas and applications in damp environments.

Common highlights of the BavaFlex series:

  • Premium quality: Polymer base material made in Germany for maximum reliability.
  • Indestructible: Both types are characterized by the fact that they do not break under load and possess enormous energy absorption.
  • AMS-Ready: Thanks to the Shore hardness of 98A, the filaments have very good inherent stiffness and are compatible with systems such as the Bambu Lab AMS .

Application tip: If your component is primarily exposed to high mechanical friction indoors, choose the ester-based version . For all applications exposed to weather, moisture, or organic influences, the ether-based version is the technically superior choice.

Product performance

SPECIFICATION

  • TPU filament on a spool, vacuum packed
  • Net weight: 750g, Gross weight: 1kg
  • Hardness: Shore A 98
  • Diameter: 1.75mm +/-0.05mm
  • Roundness: +/-3%
  • Extruder temperature depending on printing speed and layer thickness: 225°C - 245°C
  • Recommended extruder temperature for initial tests: 230°C
  • Print bed: approx. 60°C - 80°C for better adhesion and less shrinkage.

PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Suitable for direct drive and Bowden extruders
  • Printing speed 30-110mm/s depending on nozzle temperature and layer thickness

The first layer should be 0.3mm thick to compensate for unevenness in the print bed. TPU is prone to stringing. Select print parameters to minimize stringing. With soft materials, the extruder may slip slightly during filament transport, so the flow rate (trailing, multiplier) should be set to 100-120%.

Setting the blower fan to 100% after the first layer helps to cool the melt quickly enough on overhangs.

1. General Security Information

  • Use only by trained personnel:3D printing with TPU filaments requires specific knowledge of extruder types (direct drive vs. Bowden) and adjusted printing speeds. Children should only operate the 3D printer under constant adult supervision.
  • Ventilation:Small amounts of fumes may be released when melting thermoplastic elastomers (TPU). Ensure adequate ventilation of the work area or use an enclosure with active air filtration.

2. Instructions for handling TPU filament

  • Sensitivity to moisture (hygroscopy):TPU is very susceptible to absorbing moisture from the ambient air. Damp filament can lead to blistering, stringing, and reduced layer adhesion. Always store the filament in an airtight container with a desiccant (silica gel) or dry it before use at approximately 50°C - 55°C.
  • Avoiding overheating:Take care not to massively exceed the recommended printing temperature to avoid thermal deterioration of the material.
  • Hot surfaces:Never touch the nozzle or the heated bed during operation. Molten TPU has a high adhesive quality and can cause severe burns upon skin contact.

3. Special safety instructions

  • Choking hazard:Keep filament remnants and small parts away from children and pets. Due to the high toughness and elasticity of TPU remnants, they pose a particular risk if swallowed.
  • First aid in case of incidents: Burns:In case of contact with molten TPU, immediately cool the affected area of skin under running, cold water for at least 10-15 minutes. Do not forcibly peel the plastic off the skin, as this can damage the tissue. Consult a doctor.Fumes:If you experience respiratory irritation or dizziness, leave the room immediately and go outside for fresh air. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist.

4. User responsibility

  • Duty of care:The user is responsible for correctly configuring their printer. Since TPU can adhere very strongly to print beds (especially smooth PEI or glass), a release agent should be used to prevent damage to the print bed during removal.
  • Protective equipment:When removing stubborn support structures, it is recommended to wear safety glasses and cut-resistant gloves, as TPU parts can jump off unpredictably when cut due to their toughness.
